Today’s reading is Daniel 9-10.

Have you ever stopped to think about how amazing it is Daniel was reading Jeremiah in the first year of Darius? First, they didn’t have printing presses. So Daniel had somehow gotten a hand made copy of the scroll. Second, we’re talking about a book that was about 70 years old. Third, that book was all about why Israel was going to be judged and need to surrender to Babylon, but they hadn’t so it all went downhill. Not exactly exciting reading for one of the captives. But what is Daniel doing 70 years into the captivity? Reading the book Jeremiah wrote. And I have trouble sometimes just getting in these two chapters every weekday. It must be worth it, so let’s keep it up.

Today’s reading is Daniel 11-12.

A Word for Our Kids

Hey kids, as I said yesterday, I understand if these visions and dreams are a bit confusing to you. I don’t expect you on your first time through them to fully understand them. I do hope you picked up on one really cool principle demonstrated in Daniel 10. The messenger who appears (seems to be a pre-incarnate picture of Jesus Christ) talks about Michael one of Israel’s princes and then the prince of Persia and the prince of Greece and an altercation between them. He is not talking about earthly princes, but something going on behind the scenes in the spiritual realm. Always understand there is more going on than we can see. There is a heavenly and spiritual battle happening around us all the time. We may not be able to see it, but it is happening. Let’s make sure we are always fighting on the right side of this conflict.
