Today’s reading is 2 Corinthians 1-2.
How many times have you heard someone say, “God will never let us be burdened beyond our ability.” Yet Paul says, “For we were so utterly burdened beyond our strength that we despaired of life itself.” Perhaps we’ve misunderstood some other passages when the comfort we give so clearly contradicts this one. Notice what Paul’s conclusion was about this burden: “But that was to make us rely not on ourselves but on God who raises the dead.” We may, in fact, face many burdens to great for us. But we will never face a burden to great for God, even if the burden kills us, He will raise us from the dead. Praise the Lord!
Tomorrow’s reading is 2 Corinthians 3-4.
A Word for Our Kids
Hey kids, we often ask other people to make requests of God on our behalf. Did you notice that Paul not only did that, but he asked people to also give thanks on his behalf? We are often quick to seek intercession (getting others to pray for us) when we want something. Let’s make sure we are just as quick to thank and get others thanking God when He has granted the request.
