Today’s reading is Colossians 1-2.

What happens to a body when it is severed from its head? Death. What do we call it when a body quits responding properly to its head? Disease. That is exactly what we call it when a congregation or Christian quits holding fast to our head, Jesus Christ. When we allow the philosophies of men to twist and distort the gospel, when we search deep within ourselves for truth, when we mix and mingle worldviews and ideologies, we are actually abandoning the head. We may be having fun and enjoyment, even getting meaning from it, but we aren’t  growing. In those cases, we are actually dying. Put Jesus in the beginning; put Him on the throne; put Him as your head. That is the only way to grow.

Tomorrow’s reading is Colossians 3-4

A Word for Our Kids

Hey kids, I have a challenge for us. Let’s memorize Colossians 1:15-20. This is one  of the earliest statements defining who Jesus is. What a great paragraph to have hidden in our hearts and minds. Do you want to know Jesus? Know this passage. Somebody asks you who Jesus is to you? Give them this passage. Jesus is not merely a nice teacher, He is so much more. He is the fullness of God, Creator, Redeemer. Praise the Lord!
