Today’s reading is John 11-12.
Does Jesus even care? Lazarus is sick, dying even. Jesus could stop it. He knows it; Mary knows it; Martha knows it, Lazarus knows it; everyone knows it. But Jesus hangs back for a couple of days. When he finally arrives, not only is Lazarus dead, but he’s been in the tomb for four days. Have you ever wondered if Jesus was ignoring your problem because He wasn’t dealing with it in the way or on the timetable you expected? Yet, He shows up and does something completely unexpected: He raises Lazarus from the dead. He may have been four days late, but really He was right on time. That is the Savior we serve. Praise the Lord!
Tomorrow’s reading is John 13-14.
A Word for Our Kids
Hey kids, I know it is surprising to see the reaction of the chief priests, the Pharisees, and the Jewish Council to Jesus’s amazing miracle of raising Lazarus from the dead. First, it is shocking that they don’t just fall at His feet and worship Him. After all, if someone can raise the dead, He must be more than man. But second, why on earth would you plot to put to death someone who just raised the dead or even to kill the person He raised from the dead? I mean, isn’t that like having already lost. If He can raise the dead, what good is killing Him going to do? Oh well, when people don’t want to believe, any excuse and any action will do except submission. Let this be a lesson for you: many people just won’t do what makes sense when it comes to Jesus. Don’t be surprised by it, and don’t let it deter you from letting Him be your Lord. He will give you life just like He did Lazarus.
