Today’s reading is John 1-2.

It’s the first reading and first blog post of 2017. What more needs to be said than “Behold! The Lamb of God! Who takes away the sin of the world!” The Word became flesh for you. The Word became a sacrifice for you. The Word became the Lamb for you. Let’s put Him in the beginning of our day, our week, our new year, our lives. Let’s renew that commitment today.

Tomorrow’s reading is John 3-4.

A Word for Our Kids

Hey kids, John doesn’t show us the manger with little baby Jesus in it. But He does forever change the outlook of that common scene in our mind’s eye. When we envision little baby Jesus surrounded by His parents and the shepherds, and then the little boy Jesus visited by wise men, we are seeing so much more than a baby and a toddler. We are seeing the infinite God. We are seeing the very creative Word of God become flesh, dwelling among us. How did all of that fit in a little baby? I don’t know and can’t say. But praise God it did.
