Today’s reading is Ephesians 5-6.

Yesterday we learned we cannot possibly lose when we are strengthened by the indwelling power of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Today we are reminded again to be strengthened by God being told to “put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.” What a picture! God within us and His armor surrounding us, how can we lose? But how do we put this armor on? We must put on the belt of truth, which truth is found in God’s Word (John 17:17); we must put on the breastplate of righteousness, which righteousness we are trained in by the Scripture (II Timothy 3:16-17); we must shod our feet with the readiness of the gospel of peace, which gospel is found  in the Word (Colossians 1:5); we must take up the shield of faith, which faith comes from hearing the Word of Christ (Romans 10:17); we must put on the helmet of salvation, which salvation is learned from the sacred writings (II Timothy 3:15); and we must take the sword of the Spirit, which sword is the Word of God (Ephesians 6:17). Are you getting the picture? If we want to be strengthened by God, we better get into His Word. What are you filling yourself with today?

Monday’s reading is Leviticus 1-2.

A Word for Our Kids

Hey kids, you know we can’t read Ephesians 6 without me reminding you to obey your parents and honor them. This was the first command with promise. That promise is not really that you will live a long time if you obey your parents. This promise is actually the idea of generational kingdom legacy. It hearkens back to the promise to Israel that if the children would listen to their God honoring parents, Israel would remain in the land instead of being kicked off and taken captive. In the same way, when Paul applies this promise to you, he is not really telling you how to live a long life. He is telling you how to be part of a generational kingdom legacy for Christ, spreading the borders of His kingdom one generation at a time throughout the entire world. The responsibility is yours to listen to and obey God honoring parents so the kingdom will continue and grow. Keep it up.
