Today’s reading is Genesis 41-42.

If we’re not careful, we’ll think the message of the story of Joseph is “Obey God and everything will work out well in the end.” Of course, if we surrender to Christ, we will be with God in heaven in the end. It does not, however, mean life will work out well in the end. Most Christians will never be second in command of the known world, no matter how faithfully they serve the Lord in times of trial. The real message of Joseph’s story, however, is the need for a deliverer who goes through the pit, is sacrificed, and comes out on the other side being king. Joseph’s story is not our story; it is Jesus’s. The family of Israel is delivered because of Joseph’s sacrifice. We are delivered because of Jesus’s sacrifice. Never forget how much you need the Deliverer who went through the pit and the prison for you. Praise the Lord!

Tomorrow’s reading is Genesis 43-44.

A Word for Our Kids

Hey kids, did you notice what Joseph said when Pharaoh said, “I understand you have the power to interpret dreams”? Joseph didn’t say, “Why yes, yes I can.” Instead he said, “It is not in me; God will give Pharaoh a favorable answer.” Let that be a great example for you. When you are tempted to take the glory and credit for yourself, give it to God instead. He deserves the honor. We are just His instruments.
