Today’s reading is Genesis 35-36.
l admit, I find it odd that they still have idols in Jacob’s household. Yet, at this point, Jacob finally calls them to make their choice: choose Jehovah. What fascinates me is when they give up their idols, they also give up their ear rings. Why? I can’t help but remember that when Israel made the golden calf at Mt. Sinai, they made it out of their jewelry. Putting God in the beginning means getting rid of every other god. Getting rid of every other god means even getting rid of the things that pave the way for idolatry. Are you ready to put away your idolatry? Are you ready to put God in the beginning?
Today’s reading is Genesis 37-38.
A Word for Our Kids
Hey kids, did you catch at the end of yesterday’s reading that Jacob was afraid the Canaanites would gang up on them because of what Simeon and Levi had done? Today, however, “a terror from God fell upon the cities that were around them, so that they did not pursue the sons of Jacob.” Jacob really had nothing to fear because God was on his side. Keep in mind, this book was written for the wilderness wandering Jews who were about to take the land in conquest. What a lesson for them. Trust God, His terror will be your enemies and you will win the victory. Keep that in mind as you grow up. Trust God, no matter what fears you face, He will care for you.
